Itinerary

Day 1. The charm of Tbilisi

Meeting at Tbilisi International airport, transfer to hotel, check-in. Tbilisi walking tour: Sameba Cathedral, Metekhi church, Rike Park, Peace bridge, cable way to Narikala Fortress, Tbilisi mosque, Abanotubani – sulphur baths district, Sioni church. Wine tasting at one of the oldest wine cellars in Tbilisi. In the evening – dinner at local Georgian restaurant with Georgian folk dances and music show. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 2. Kakheti region

After breakfast drive to Kakheti region – the cradle of wine. Visit to local Wine House in Kakhetian village where you will not only learn about Georgian wine history and making process while visiting Wine museum but as well will participate in masterclasses of baking Kakhetian bread in a very special way and making traditional Georgian sweets, called churchkhela. This delicacy, originated from Kakheti region and made from nuts (usually walnuts) and grape juice, is very popular in all the Georgia and nowadays proudly called Georgian snickers. And of-course, program includes tasting of local wines and traditional lunch from fresh local products. After lunch head to Sioghnaghi, on the way stop at Gremi architectural monument – the complex is what has survived from the once flourishing town of Gremi when it functioned as a lively trading town. Arrival to Sighnaghi – small amazing town, called Kakhetian pearl and city of love. Late in the evening back to Tbilisi. Overnight in Tbilisi.

Our evening recommendation – relax in ancient sulfuric once beloved by literature classics Aleksander Pushkin and Aleksander Duma. There is a saying – if you haven’t been in Tbilisi baths means you haven’t been in Tbilisi. You can order a pot of tea or…massage and have a good time with your friends in a separate bath room (1 hour per room costs about 20-50 EUR).

Day 3. Tbilisi-Borjomi-Vardzia

After early breakfast drive to Borjomi – famous mineral water resort – sightseeing, excursion in park, tasting of natural mineral water from the spring. Head to Vardzia, on the way excursion to Rabat Castle – an impressive newly renovated medieval castle complex. Excursion at Vardzia Cave town – the most impressive and biggest cave town-monastery in Georgia, founded by Queen Tamar in 1185 (in the case of lack of time excursion will be delayed to the next day). Dinner and overnight in Vardzia.

Day 4. Vardzia-Sataplia-Kutaisi

After breakfast drive to Sataplia National Nature Reserve to explore underground world in Prometehus Cave – the walking route of 1420 meters opens the beauty of nature in the dark: wonders made by stalactites-stalagmites, flowing rivers and crystalline lakes. Arrival to Kutaisi – one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe, as archaeological evidence indicates that the city functioned as the capital of the kingdom of Colchis in the sixth to fifth centuries BC. Sightseeing, visit to Bagrati Cathedral (UNESCO). Overnight in Kutaisi.

Day 5. Kutaisi-Martvili-Mestia

After breakfast drive to amazing Svaneti mountains, the region which is famous for its amazing mountainous nature, unique architecture, language, traditions, very strong character local people (better do not argue with Svans!) and food. On the way – stop at Martvili Canyon to enjoy spectacular views of canoyn scenery and get paddled on a short boat ride. Arrival to Mestia the center town of beautiful Svaneti region, sightseeing. Dinner and overnight in Mestia.

Dary 6. Mestia-Ushguli-Mestia

After breakfast jeep tour to Ushguli (for extra fee – ~ 20 EUR per person). Ushguli (2200 m)– is one of the highest inhabited places in Europe (after Bochorma, Tusheti, Georgia.) Enjoy mountainous views, visit old mountainous villages, see their architecture and meet locals. In the evening back to Mestia. Dinner and overnight.

After breakfast drive down to Kutaisi, on the way visit Okatse Canyon which is situated in the ravine of the river Gordi. The canyon width ranges from 3-6 to 15-20 meters, while its depth is between 20-100 meters. A visitors centre was built in 2013, along with a hanging path 250 metres in length, as well as a 500 metre path through the canyon and forest, a walking path of 2 km, and an observation spot with panoramic views of the entire valley. Overnight in Kutaisi.
